🙋🏻♂️ Hey friends,
I literally have a smile on my face as I am writing this newsletter while listening to Mozart.
💌 Sohan’s Newsletter - 50 editions, 9000+ reads, 200+ weekly readers and 170+ subscribers- if someone would’ve told this to me on the day I published my first newsletter, I clearly wouldn't have believed it.
📌 I’ve divided this newsletter into three chapters so that you find it easier to navigate. The last chapter is about the big reveal, so don’t forget to read it. 😜
⏮️ Chapter 1: Revisiting the past.
✍🏻 I started this newsletter in August 2021 as a mere source of documenting my learnings by sharing the resources that I was consuming in the domains of self-improvement, psychology, business and what not. 📖 I was inspired by the authors like Darren Hardy, Tim Ferriss and James Clear, who had their own newsletter community to share their ideas and resources. I wanted to start something similar, and I did!
🔍 Read my newsletter editions from the beginning and you’ll realize the way in which the way I write has evolved, and especially the ways in which I have grown :)
👨🏻🎓 Offline college began in Feb 2022, and when people were meeting in person for the first time in two years, a lot of them recognized me as ‘The Newsletter Guy’, which felt so good! 😎 Since then, I stopped getting free time to read books and listen to podcasts, and my surface area increased, I eventually 🪴 started writing about my experiences, observations and musings as a 20-year-old university student who’s in the process of building a happy, meaningful and healthy life for himself. 💡 I wrote exclusively about self-improvement, with a pinch of psychology, mental models and advice from productivity books.
🤓 Ah yes, and how did I forget to write that I’d started an instagram page around Feb 2022, named ✍🏻 ‘Sohan’s Journal’ to stay connected with my readers on a daily basis, but that failed miserably because I couldn’t keep up with creating content for it, and neither did I have any idea about instagram content creation and marketing.
📌 My ‘why’ of writing newsletters then:
✍🏻 To document my thoughts and musings for myself.
💭 To help the readers to build a life that they want for themselves, by picking up the resources and thoughts that I’m sharing while I’m in the process of crafting a life like that for myself too.
📍 Chapter 2: The Present and the Future.
💭 Overtime, I realized that I love the entire process of learning something - implementing it- testing whether it made me happier, healthier or more productive - creating a generalized framework for it - sharing it with my readers, hoping that it’ll help them improve their lives too.
📍 The future is already here:
🎙 I’m continuing with my leadership position at IEEE Pune Section for one more year, this time expanding the team size from 9 to 12, expanding our podcast to different channels, and operating like an early-stage startup.
🐤 I’m obviously going to continue writing on my Twitter. I absolutely love it.
💌 I’m going to keep writing here too. My helipad.
🎯 Further expansions of this newsletter and some changes:
✅ I just finished building my personal website, and it is now live.
It’s a single place where I’ve unified my entire content portfolio.
⚠️ I’m expanding my writing work further, with an aim of publishing two blogs a month, exclusively on my website.
🎧 For the people those who can’t read my newsletters, don’t worry. The audio version of this newsletter will be available on Spotify (launching soon), two days before it lands into your inbox. 😎
The same audio will be linked at the top of every newsletter, only for you.
💭 I’ll try to create content on Instagram and YouTube, and I have several topics in mind for it too. Hoping to release it soon. (‘Try to’ because I’m not sure how busy will I get with university admits in the coming months).
🪄 Chapter 3: The big reveal.
✍🏻 One of the things that I always wanted to do is to start my own blog, and for it, I waited for more than a year, and like I’ve mentioned up there, my website is now live.
💌 I’m changing the name of this newsletter from Sohan’s Newsletter to ‘The inProgress Newsletter’, by Sohan Joshi.
Like I’d mentioned in the 49th edition, I wanted to unify all my content work under a single brand name.
🎯 All my solo podcasts on Spotify in which I narrate my newsletters will come under the brand of ‘inProgress’.
💬 My instagram page will now come under ‘inProgress’, instead of Sohan’s Journal.
🎙 If I start my own podcast tomorrow, it’ll come under ‘inProgress’ too.
📈 I want to expand this content creation thing further, and I also have a vision of starting a ‘inProgress community’ at some point- a place where students document their learnings and implementations which are helping them build a happy, healthy and meaningful lives for themselves.
‼️ Why inProgress?
Through my content, I want to tell the student community that we all are a ‘work in progress’.
🔍 We live in an age where we are constantly bombarded by comparisons in both, our personal and professional lives. This has caused a lot of mental problems in the student community, and as far as I have seen, it is very difficult for them to rise through it.
📝 Through my content, I want to make the readers aware about the mental models, tools and techniques that I am using to improve my life everyday, and to overcome problems, some of which they’re facing too.
🎯 I want to inspire at least one person out there to document their work, and their self-improvement journey online by engaging into meaningful experiences, making high value connections and friendships, deeper self reflection, and being a confident individual who has a potential of giving back to the world.
😃 All I can say is that I am very happy with everything right now, and things couldn't better. I am very excited to take inProgress further, whilst building a happier, healthier and a more meaningful life for myself.
💌 To the people who’ve seen me since the shy kid I was when the first newsletter was out, I love you all. And to the people who’ve been following my work till now, your support means the world to me.
☮️ Thank you so much. I’ll see you around. PEACE.
Signing off,
Sohan Joshi,
Founder, inProgress.
