Hey friends,
To be honest, I’ve not worked a lot in the previous week. I did just the needful to get by, but I didn’t put in a lot of efforts into the things that I am into. I went to college for the whole day to engage myself with the people around me, slept a lot more than I usually do, did not maintain any to-do list, just did minimal amount of work, and I realized that I was lazy tired. 😵💫
✍🏻 I had figured out my time-blocks, and I was also learning to place those blocks effectively throughout my day, but overtime (and particularly in this week) ⚠️ I realized that I am investing too much of energy into this ‘prioritization’ process, instead of actually getting things done and feeling good about it.
💭 Since a couple of days, the thoughts that I had before sleeping were like: “you missed out on the blocks C,D,E. Don’t let that happen tomorrow.” In this process of tying all these blocks and placing them throughout my day everyday, I burnt myself out, and I entered a zone in which I knew that I am not working optimally even when there’s so much to get done, but I don’t feel guilty about it either. 😵💫
💬 I discussed this thing with some of my friends and they said that this is a normal phenomenon when you’ve worked a lot, and this phase passes automatically and you don’t have to do anything to get back on track, “wo apne aap ho jayega.” (you’ll get back on track automatically).
🪴 But the one advice that stood out for me is the one that Kaustubh gave me.
💌“maybe you don’t need to give the same amount of time to one task everyday. If your daily time blocks consist of eight tasks, then make sure that you show up for each task everyday, even if it’s for 15 minutes.”
📌 Let’s say that you have four time blocks: college, GRE preparation, reading and workout.
On day 1, maybe you can attend the college for whole day, then prepare for GRE for 2 hours, workout for an hour, and then read for 15 minutes. The key here is that you’re trying to give justice to everything (in this case, reading), but you’re showing up for all the tasks no matter what.
On day 2, maybe you can study for GRE for just an hour, and put the extra one hour into reading. In this case, you’re not doing justice to GRE, but you’re making sure that you’re reading more, and also showing up for GRE.
📝 This is a good way to develop an ‘and’ approach of doing tasks everyday (I did A and B), instead of trying to give justice to everything, and ending up with burnout and with an ‘or’ approach. (today I don’t feel so good because I had to choose one amongst A or B, and I did A, but I know B was equally important).
✍🏻 It’s okay if you don’t give justice to one thing out of x time blocks, but make sure that you touchdown everyday. Compensate wisely on the next day, and evaluate yourself for a week, and not for a day.
I am implementing this, will write about the results and about its positive impact soon.
‼️ Right now I am working on something special since a couple of weeks and I am enjoying the process of learning more about it (will be revealed in the 50th newsletter! xD)
Weekly round-up:
🎵 Song that I am hooked on to: 'Best Day of My Life' by American Authors
😜 No books or podcasts in this week. Just relaxing after coming back home over the weekend, getting minimal things done, spending time with my friends, 📸 clicking pictures, making a reel, 🎬 re-rewatching ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, getting my ear treatment done (it hurts, ngl), and taking some rest after that.
🪴 I know I will get back on track soon. And I also know that once I do, it’s going to be a long run. Gearing up.
💌 Well that’s it for this week. You can reach to me at sohanjoshi02@gmail.com in case of any queries, suggestions and compliments.
Take care and I’ll see you around.
Signing off,
Sohan
